School is in session

Another great day, another snorkelling trip to Punta Uva.  Just can't get enough of this place, and there's still more I haven't seen.

Today I explored further out than I've dared venture before.  I also found a new favourite spot less than 50 yards from where I've thoroughly explored in the past couple of weeks.  Also had a sloth siting on the bike ride, but it was too high in the trees to get a decent picture with my limited-zoom underwater camera.

Not much further out than a few days ago I come across a large school of Doctorfish.  Much bigger than the single spot fish school from last time.  Followed them for a couple of minutes.

 Fish I hadn't seen before
Stoplight Parrotfish again (aka camo fish). Where did he go?
 Yellow Goatfish
 Different Parrotfish
Don't think I had a decent picture of these fish previously.
Spotfin Butterflyfish

I think this is a school of sea bass.
If not, they're dead ringers for them. Good sized fish.
 School of small stripy fish
 Clown fish
 Banded Butterflyfish (nearest).
Sergeant Major behind.
This one was fast and didn't like me being so close.
Only got off a couple of pictures.  Foreye Butterflyfish

Quick break for water/snack, then it was off to a new spot.  Again, where I'd been before, just further out - and what I thought was much deeper.  Turned out there was another big wall with a drop-off on either side.  Perfect sea-life habitat.  Instantly came across a big school of Doctorfish.
Then an interesting looking living spire

Then a HUGE school of Doctorfish.  Followed them for almost 5 minutes.  Here is a chunk of the video.  Pardon the quality, it's a cheap camera.

Next was an amazing patch of fern-like plants.  I could never take a good enough picture to even come close to how incredible these look in real life.

The red here stands in stark contrast to its surroundings

 Biggest Stoplight Parrotfish I've seen

That was it for the snorkelling.  Lots of new features seen today.  More to explore next trip.  Can't wait.

On the bike ride home my favourite lunch spot was closed, so I continued on.  If it had been open, I wouldn't have seen this sloth.

Only one person was there when I arrived, but people started to congregate as he started to cross the busy road.  In about 20 seconds there were 4 cars and about 15 people looking on.  Just as I'm taking this picture, I notice a second sloth further up the road (above the frame in the picture below).
After a couple cars ignored all the people and zoomed through, something had to be done or this guy wasn't going to survive much longer.  Because of my earlier trip to the Jaguar Center, I knew not to touch the sloth with my bare hands (they absorb everything through their skin - good and bad).  I grabbed my beach towel, wrapped him up, and placed him on the far side of the road.  Good thing they aren't that quick, as he immediately turned around and started to cross back again!!!!

I wrapped him up a second time and carried him further off the road, then mostly freed him of the towel.  One foot was still hung up though, and he didn't care too much for any assistance from another onlooker.  Again, good thing they're slow, or this guy would have lost an arm.

"Yeah, you better back off if you know what's good for you"
Check out that wingspan!

He eventually calmed down and started crawling into the jungle.  The other one was also safely on its way.  Two sloths enter, two sloths leave.  It's a win win.
